Oregon Expands Protected Class Status to Section 8 Recipients

The Oregon Senate has passed HB 2639 sending the bill to Governor Kitzhaber’s desk where he is expected to sign it.  The bill, which would go into effect July 1, 2014, redefines “source of income” to include federal rent subsidy payments and any other local, state or federal housing assistance.  Section 1. (2) of the bill reads:

“Section 1. (2) A person may not, because of the race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, marital status, familial status or source of income of any person…”
